A new Cyanogen OS update is out and it brings about an exciting new feature, called Mods.
Now that that is out of the way, what are mods? For example, features for your camera are found in the camera app (which is where you'd expect them to be). The Cyanogen team describes it as the post-app era and we have to admit, some of the concepts do sound incredibly useful. Swiping left once on the locked screen actually takes you to a full-featured Twitter interface you can use.
Among the first available Cyanogen mods are Microsoft's Skype mod, which makes Skype contacts and call history available in the dialer and allow users to buy Skype credit and make Skype to Skype calls for free.
In the case of personal assistant Cortana, it all goes one step further, as it also works on the lock screen and allows you to access certain features without the need to unlock the device. And thanks to the partnership with Microsoft, apps such as Cortana, Skype, and OneNote are the pioneers of this integration.
With the OneNote mod you can easily get your ideas down on your device by selecting the OneNote tile in Quick Settings.
OneNote is also deeply integrated into the operating system with a dedicated mod, so you can perform tasks such saving an email as a note, taking a note while in a call, and have everything saved automatically without the need for any other input.
The update is available for the OnePlus One right now, but it's rolling out in stages, as most Android updates tend to do. This is probably what allows the same algorithm to also be used to hyperlapse existing videos as well.
With Mods, Cyanogen OS 13.1 looks like a big update for the OnePlus One.
