Andy Murray faces Milos Raonic in the men's singles final and warned his Canadian opponent he would be "ruthless" in his quest for a third Grand Slam.

"I was keeping up with him", Raonic told reporters.

The tall Canadian looked calm and assured in his first Grand Slam final, but after 25 minutes he pushed an easy forehand volley into the net to give Murray a break of serve to go ahead 4-3.

It was the first, a heartbreaking four-set loss to Roger Federer in 2012, that planted the seeds for Murray's eventual coronation.

Another is that Murray - whose returning and counter-punching are second only to Djokovic's - has beaten Raonic in their last five matches, including the Queen's Club final on a nearby patch of London grass last month.

"It was phenomenal", Raonic said of his performance. Raonic showed no trouble and no hesitation, other than one shaky double-fault, and served out the last three games for an historic 6-3 win of the set and the match.

Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., is the only Canadian female to play in a Grand Slam singles final. She lost to Petra Kvitova at Wimbledon in 2014.

"Super Sunday" could round off one of the most successful weekends in British tennis history if fellow Scot Gordon Reid adds the inaugural Wimbledon men's singles wheelchair title to the doubles he won on Saturday, Jordanne Whiley takes home the silverware in the ladies' wheelchair doubles and Heather Watson has glory in the mixed doubles.

Raonic - one of tennis' most thoughtful speakers - vowed to do all he could to attain the next level. "There's always a big contingency and a big showing and that's a great honour to have that support".

Andy Murray will bid to win his second Wimbledon title later today. They worked together when Murray won his first two Grand Slam trophies, including at the 2012 U.S. Open, then split up, before reuniting last month.

"Next time I'm going to try to serve through him!" the Canadian sharp shooter warned.

"It's the most important tournament for me every year".

The match against Raonic will represent the first major final Murray has played in which hasn't been against either Federer or Novak Djokovic.

"Last time it was just pure relief, and I didn't really enjoy the moment as much, whereas I'm going to make sure I enjoy this one more than the others".

After honing his skills at a renowned tennis academy in Barcelona, Murray showcased his talent to the world by reaching his first major final at the US Open in 2008, losing to Federer in that encounter and also the Australian Open final two years later. But on a breezy afternoon, at a Centre Court filled with almost 15,000 partisan fans, Murray basically shut down that integral part of Raonic's game.

It's been a rough few weeks for Britain, what with its vote to leave the European Union, the resulting drop of the pound's value, and the subsequent resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron, who was seated in the front row of the Royal Box on Sunday, several seats over from Prince William and his wife, Kate.

Andy Murray in action against Tomas Berdych in Wimbledon 2016 semis. "Is it that bad?" During the 2011 Australian Open, Andy Roddick's hard-charging agent, Ken Meyerson, who died much too young later that year, pulled me aside on his way to watch Raonic and said, "With this kid's serve and game, he's a future Grand Slam contender". Over and over, Murray managed to get the ball back, even one that came in at 147 miles per hour.

Raonic did carve out his first break points in the fifth game of the third set but Murray saved both.

Murray finished with a mere 12 unforced errors, while Raonic had 29. Murray's deep return stance and the pressure he exerts by simply being one of the game's finest returners impacted Raonic, mind you. "That's going to be the most important thing for me", Raonic said.
