Despite the pressure Trump's campaign has not indicated when or if, the billionaire will release his tax returns.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released tax records showing she paid a federal tax rate of 34.2 percent past year, while Republican candidate Donald Trump is undergoing increasing pressure to make his own financial disclosure.
Bill and Hillary Clinton made most of their money in 2015 from business income, namely consulting, speaking and book royalties, for a total of $10.1 million between the couple.
But aside from their earnings, the release was meant to put a spotlight on Trump's refusal to release his own returns.
Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, paid an effective federal tax rate of 20.3 percent in 2015, according to the news release.
"Hillary Clinton has turned over the only records nobody wants to see from her - the American public wants to see the 33,000 emails she deleted to obstruct an FBI investigation", Jason Miller, the Trump campaign's senior communications advisor, said in a written statement. "What is he trying to hide?"
The Trump campaign responded to the release late Friday afternoon, calling for the disclosure of documents related to the Clinton Foundation and Benghazi it said would be more revealing.
If Trump does not make public the details of his taxes, he would be the first major party presidential nominee to decline to do so since Richard M. Nixon.
Trump has refused to release his tax returns until an audit conducted by a special division known as the "Wealth Squad" of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the US' tax authority, is completed. The Clintons paid $43.9 million in federal taxes over those years - an average tax rate that works out to 31.6 percent.
Clinton's return was filed jointly with her husband former President Bill Clinton. "All told, the Clintons have made their tax returns public for every year dating back to 1977", according to the news release.
Bill spent $500,000 in travel as part of the speaking portion of his business, Hillary had about $250,000 in travel expenses for her speaking business.
