The showdown between #3 MI and #2 Ohio State lived up to the hype and broke a lot of hearts in MI and will leave the brain trust behind the College Football Playoff poll with some tough and controversial decisions to make. Not only did Penn State win the Land Grant Trophy, Ohio State beat MI, so they're heading to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game next weekend.
Of course, beating "The team up North", as MI is called around here, is enough reason to party - and can be hard to put into perspective.
Tyler Davis added a second-quarter field goal for Penn State. But the moves by Texas and LSU take the two biggest jobs off the market. And now, all that's left is an appearance in the AAC title game next week and then their rivals from West Point in two weeks for one of college football's best traditions.
But if this is just the start of a new Ten Year War for MI and Ohio State, with Meyer and Harbaugh playing the roles of Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler, there is much for to look forward to for college football fans.
Not counting the two overtime periods, in which the Buckeyes tallied 50 additional yards, Ohio State finished the day with only 280 total yards; their lowest total since last season's loss to Michigan State. If Wisconsin wins, easy decision for the committee.
The Gamecocks were little more than speed bump on that road that Clemson got past quickly, jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter and cruising to a third straight win in the Palmetto State's biggest sporting event. There's always one conference game that seems to keep his team out of the Big Ten title game, even if they're actually the best team in the conference. The Nittany Lions will take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Championship Game next Saturday while both the Wolverines and Buckeyes will be forced to watch the game from home.
Things would have been so much simpler if Ohio State hadn't lost to the Lions on the road October 22. The results just were not good enough.
"(I've) been a part of some insane football games", Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett said. They are a victory away from the Cotton Bowl.
Regardless, there were some calls missed for both sides, but the one that mattered - where Barrett ran for a one-yard gain on 4th and 1, was and will always be correct. But I think we 100 percent have an argument that we're a top four team in this country. Their defenses allowed 1,811 yards this weekend. The Huskies stomped all over Washington State in the Apple Cup and got some help from "The Game" in Columbus. He was great against SC, but his game against Pitt was much like Jackson's against Kentucky.
His senior defensive lineman Chris Wormley did.
