After its parental company Facebook, WhatsApp seems to copy Snapchat's features as it is reported to test new interface with "Status" updates tab.

According to a report on Firstpost on Friday, currently, the functionality is only available as a hidden feature in the latest WhatsApp public beta for Android and iOS. You will also need a rooted Android phone or jailbroken iPhone; whichever sides of the divide you belong. While the ability of putting a status always existed, the new feature lets you share photos with your contacts for a limited time. A send button shares the Status with the user's WhatsApp contacts. Instagram added a new row of circular avatars at the top of your Instagram feed.

Named confusingly after another WhatsApp feature, Status will give you a chance to post images to your Status page. On Snapchat too, people can view exactly how many of their friends have seen their Stories.

The Status feature appears as its own tab in between the Chats and Calls icon.

To recall, WhatsApp is already testing the video-calling feature in Beta form and is expected to roll out soon on the Android and iOS platform. He then shared photo evidence to confirm that this new feature is expected to quite similar to the one introduced in Instagram a couple months ago.

After losing a big number of millennials to platforms like Instagram and Snapchat over the last couple of years, Facebook went berserk. WhatsApp is also letting users pick images and videos from their library, doodle on them and add text if they would like. These statuses tend to linger there for nearly 24 hours and then get deleted automatically. WhatsApp is possibly also updating its privacy features to fall in line with this ephemeral status feature. WhatsApp is now aiming to boost User Interface by testing feature and feedback at a wider-level. In a recent update, the company also added a new camera tab beside the calls tab to quickly jump into the camera and capture photos.
