Police say that Yogesh, in whose auto she was shot, was older than the trio and often resolved the differences between Shubham and Simran.

Yogesh and Shubham worked as property dealers and resided in Tuda Mandi in Najafgarh area, while Nitin was preparing for UPSC entrance examination. The girl and one her friend, identified as Shubham, were still inside the vehicle when a gunshot was heard. Her mother reached to the spot after hearing the sound of the bullet where she found her daughter lying a pool of blood. When they were on their way back, they were stopped at Dwarka for some work. Yogesh stepped out of the vehicle to attend a nature's call. The accused, identified as Shubham, lives in the same area and is said to be absconding. It was then that she heard a gunshot. She immediately rushed her daughter in the same auto to the Ayushman Hospital, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors. At 6.30 pm, the girl's mother started calling incessantly. The auto and the murder weapon have been recovered by the police. The boy who was with ran away.

"We have recorded the statements of Yogesh, Nitin and the victim's mother and have registered the case at the Najafgarh police station". Investigations revealed that Simran had recently had an argument with Shubham over Nitin meeting her frequently.
