The Raptor headed for China was built in the Dearborn assembly plant inside the Rouge complex, which remains the center of Ford's manufacturing operations in the North America.
The Raptor is six inches wider than the F-150, and is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that gets more than the 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque that the previous model's 6.2-liter V-8 produced. Now the made-in-Michigan Raptor is headed for the Middle Kingdom - and a market that's already bigger than the United States, as Ford strives to grab its piece of a growing sales pie. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor was able to earn its second award thanks to its combined capabilities in both on-road and off-road. Unlike China-focused versions of many cars, which are built in the country rather than on production lines with the North American or European versions, the Chinese Raptor is built at Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant in MI. The exported 2017 Raptor model also has a steel frame with racing shocks to provide higher ground clearance, a dual-exhaust system, and 10-speed automatic transmission.
The F-Series truck joins the Ford GT, Focus RS, Focus ST and Fiesta ST on the current roster of exports to China.
The all-new Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew is China bound. Ford reported Wednesday that F-Series sales in its home country totaled 57,995 trucks in January, a 13% increase and the best sales start for the series since 2004.
F-150 Raptor is one of more than 12 new Ford Performance vehicles coming by 2020.
"Raptor's unique looks and capability have generated incredible buzz at every auto show we've brought it to around China", he said.
But a few cities have reversed course of late, in part to help stimulate a cooling domestic economy.
And that's just the sort of opening American automakers have been hoping for.
