On Wednesday the Oklahoma Senate voted to impose a punishment on Shortey for "disorderly behavior", KFOR reports.
Police are investigating an incident at a Super 8 Motel between Republican State Sen. Ralph Shortey's Senate colleagues on Wednesday unanimously passed a measure suspending most of his legislative privileges.
Shortey allegedly checked into a Motel 8 in Moore, Oklahoma, alongside an underage boy shortly after midnight on March 9. Police visited the hotel room on a welfare check last week when a relative of the boy raised concerns. When the police arrived 30 minutes later for a welfare check, they found Shortey with a juvenile male.
Officials say the investigation is still ongoing and Shortey has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
Police are now investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Oklahoma politician Ralph Shortey (left, with Donald Trump Jr.) faces potential prostitution charges after being found with a teenage boy. It also removes him from two positions as a committee vice chair and terminates his membership in other committees.
The 35-year-old Shortey, R-Oklahoma City, was questioned Monday by Moore police, the DA said. He will also still receive a monthly paycheck of $3,200 plus benefits.
Shortey was the state chair of President Donald Trump's campaign during the primary elections.
According to his Senate biography, Shortey is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Indian Tribe and spent part of his childhood on the tribe's South Dakota reservation before moving to Oklahoma. "They need to be working on the business of the people", said Sarah Baker, communications director with the Oklahoma Democratic Party. YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City spokeswoman Brenda Bennett said that Shortey voluntarily removed himself as Youth and Government judicial program volunteer coordinator pending the investigation's outcome. We will await to see how this case progresses before determining next steps.
