You can still complete your tax forms, but will have to wait before filing online.
In an update posted on the CRA website, the agency said that as of 5 p.m. ET Sunday, individuals and businesses were able to file electronically, make payments and access all other digital services, but provided no details about what caused the temporary suspension.
"Ensuring that your personal information is not compromised is a priority for us", the CRA wrote in a statement on its website, which has since been taken down but preserved on the CBC website.
The CRA services affected by the shutdown included "My Account", "My Business Account", "Netfile", "EFILE" and "Auto-Fill My Return".
While the CRA did shut down some services, Samson noted there was never a successful hack of their systems.
A spokesman for the Canada Revenue Agency says the tax filing services were taken offline Friday as a precaution to project Canadians' tax information.
Glowacki says that action launched a cascade of events that resulted in online services at the Canada Revenue Agency being shut down as well.
The agency said that any tax returns that were filed before the online shutdown were still being processed normally throughout the service disruption. The CRA said if you received a confirmation code when you filed your return, then it was successfully filed.
"We are working to bring our online services back up as soon as possible".
