Warner Bros. Interactive and Monolith have lifted the lid on the first gameplay video for Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, the follow-up to open-world Tolkien adventure Shadow of Mordor, set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Returning as a core component of gameplay for the sequel is the Nemesis system which, as the trailer so elegantly explains, will be made up of Overlord leaders of different territories that will be unique for every single player.
Talion joins the fray, setting a small army of adversaries ablaze, before stealthily introducing his blade to the brain stems of two roof-squatting archers. As the video points out, and the controls show, this is PlayStation 4 alpha gameplay.
These are then used to destroy a main wall - helping your army break in.
Shadow of War is the sequel to Shadow of Mordor, which won praise for its innovative Nemesis System.
Talion takes advantage of the warchief's fear of fire by taking control of a dragon and running amok in the stronghold.
It's interesting to note this particular battle will play out differently for everyone depending on how which at orcs you recruited and how you prepared for the assault. A new Ring of Power has been forged in the fires of Mount Doom, and Sauron's forces must be bent to your will with it, or defeated. Here, he is laying siege to a stronghold held by one of Sauron's Overlords in the valley of Seregost. We also get to see that players will be able to sacrifice the Drake by crashing it onto huge enemies. This is where the new Nemesis System kicks in, as pointed out by Kotaku.

It is due out on PS4, Xbox One and PC on August 25.
