On its Facebook page, the St. Charles County Police Department said: "St. Charles County police responded to a medical emergency on Buckner Road at approximately 12:40 p.m. today (Saturday, March 18)".
Here's a photographic look at his legacy. His smash hit song "Johnny B. Goode" was sent, on golden record, into space on the Voyager I spacecraft in 1977, where it remains. "And like most 90-year-old men, he has good days and he has bad days".
Even Berry's mishaps seemed influential.
Pink Floyd star Roger Waters said: "Great man, among many other things he lit the fire under the Beatles and the Rolling Stones". "Original Pure Rock "n" Roll". "In music, he cast one of the longest shadows". Married to his wife, Themetta Suggs, since 1948 and with four children to support, Berry embraced the musical style that made his career.
Berry accrued a pretty long criminal record in his time, but a much longer lasting impact on the memories of those who grew up with him on the turn table.
His first hit, "Maybellene", spent nine weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard R&B chart and also rose to No. 5 on the pop charts.
His music became fundamental for electric guitarists, becoming a requirement for anyone who might want to know how to play Rock and Roll. He was a true pioneer of rock "n" roll & a massive influence.
There's plenty more that can, and will, be said about Berry as the world reflects on his legacy following his death. With Elvis or Richard, it's the singing that gets stuck in your brain, but with Berry, it's the guitar riff that gets played over and over in your head.
Berry had announced plans on his 90th birthday last October to record and release his first album in 38 years, titled Chuck.
Eschewing the studio for the last three decades of his life, Berry scratched his musical itch by playing dates at his hometown club BlueBerry Hill and paid the bills with gigs at rock and blues festivals at home and overseas.
SLIDESHOW: Legendary Guitarist Chuck Berry Turns 90The album, titled "Chuck", was to debut in 2017.
Berry didn't just create the music for so many rock n' roll lives but helped invent the characters - the bored student, the groupie, the would-be guitar hero - and placed them in an American landscape of restlessness, aspiration and motion.
