The report claims that the main reason for this is that Microsoft is ditching the Surface Book's signature feature - its detachable display.
According to reports, the Surface Pro 5 of Microsoft is considered to be an all-in-one device that is supposed to outperform Apple's iPad Pro 2 in the form of core i7 Kaby Lake Processors from Intel whereas the Apple's iPad Pro that comes with A10X Chipset which is Apple's own.
Furthermore, the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 might come along with a 12.3-inch Ultra HD/4K displays, as well as a USB Type-C support and a robust battery.
However, that seems unlikely as the next gen hybrid laptop is expected to feature the latest Windows 10 Creators Update which is slated for April release.
This presumption stems from a recent trailer for Alien: Covenant that seemingly shows a new Microsoft Surface device. Also, there are reports that suggest Samsung is designing the Surface Pro 5 rival called Galaxy Book. After Intel's confirmation that their seventh-generation Kaby Lake chip is ready for production, the experts started speculating that Surface Book successor is just a month or two away from being launched.
Expected to be the most powerful Surface Pro device to date, the Surface Pro 5 is now shrouded in mystery, with Microsoft not even confirming the existence of it so far.
Consequently, speculation is rife that the trailer is teasing the upcoming Surface Pro 5 with AMD Ryzen under the hood.
The next iteration of Surface Pro should arrive with Microsoft's highly-anticipated Windows 10 Creators Update, aka Redstone 2. Rumors also hinted at a Q1 release, which means that the Surface Pro 5 could make its debut as soon as this month. As for the Microsoft Surface Book 2 price, the device will most likely have a starting price of $1499.
The Surface Pro line is created to pack desktop-grade power in a portable device and each iteration has been better than the previous one.
Other Surface Pro 5 specs include 16GB RAM and have an internal storage of 512GB.
During the brief teaser for the movie (which could be viewed at the end of this article), a couple of scientists were featured using a device that looks very similar to the Surface Pro series. As always in such cases, take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a grain of salt until the formal unveiling.
