CNN says that Seacrest joining Ripa's show jump starts a new era in the morning television ratings race. Kelly has been the single permanent host of the programme since the shock exit of Michael Strahan in April, 2016, so that he could join ABC's Good Morning America full-time. The Hollywood Reporter said that Seacrest will also be listed as an executive producer, putting him at Ripa's level.
"Ryan is a quintessential broadcaster and at the top of his game", said Ripa. He'll move to NY for the new job, although he will continue his radio show. To accommodate that, New York's ABC7, home of Live with Kelly and Ryan, will house a brand-new iHeartRadio studio for Seacrest's New York City location.
Calling Ripa "one of the most talented live hosts in broadcast TV", Seacrest said he was "excited to join" the show.
Ripa thanked all of the temporary co-hosts who had filled in during the search, saying, "They are a part of the "Live" family forever".
While Seacrest's salary on his new gig hasn't been made public, it's likely to be close to the $15 million he made annually on American Idol. His tremendous success is only matched by his impeccable reputation. "It is such a pleasure to be with you every morning".
Earlier this year, a Fox News insider told ET that the move was sparked by Kelly wanting more time with her children, Yardley, Edward and Thatcher, rather than financial gain.
As Radar previously reported, sources told CNN that Seacrest will host the show four days a week from NY and return to Los Angeles for the remainder of his time, the publication reports. "Plainly said, everyone loves him, and so will our daily viewers".
Kelly, who has hosted the show since 2001, worked with several different co-hosts while searching for a replacement, including Andy Cohen and Fred Savage.
Variety reported Streisand told director Robert Rodriguez during an interview Saturday at the Tribeca Film Festival in NY that "there were a lot of older people" who didn't want to see a woman director.
