Qatar Airways reclaimed the No. 1 spot in this year's Skytrax awards, a coveted list of the leading 100 airlines announced on the second day of the Paris Air Show.

Meanwhile, SIA subsidiary SilkAir came in eighth for World's Best Regional Airline, while Malaysia's AirAsia was once again named as the best low-priced airline, both in Asia and in the world.

The global airline, which was a year ago voted as having the World's Best Business Class, Best Business Class Lounge and Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East, continues to exceed expectations with its global expansion strategy and product development, including the recent launch of its new, innovative and award-winning Business Class experience, Qsuite.

Also present were AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and AirAsia X Thailand CEO Nadda Buranasiri.

AirAsia Group Cabin Crew Head Suhaila Hassan, who has been with the company for 20 years, accepted the award, flanked by AirAsia ambassador David Foster and Brazilian football player Roberto Carlos. 2017 marks the sixth time ANA has earned the "World's Best Airport Services" award, and the fifth consecutive year it has won in this category.

Fernandes said: "Today, Asean has created a world record".

"Considering we've been around for 16 years and nine of them we've been world champions".

Budget European airlines also made the cut with Norwegian nabbing the 28th spot, easyJet (41), Iberia (42) and Ryanair (76). "We are in that pre-evaporation phase where we're just seeing the bubbles", said Michael Kamel, airline advisor for PricewaterhouseCoopers. The World Airline Awards by Skytrax are regarded as the primary benchmarking tool for passenger satisfaction levels of airlines throughout the world.

"We asked David and Roberto to accept this award with Suhaila to inspire our staff to emulate these two wonderful gentleman in music and sports to be world champion and be the very best in all they do".

Hong Kong's airlines have put in a strong performance over the past year, taking home a number of worldwide accolades at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2017.
