That's the Ataribox, which the company announced today via a newsletter. On Monday, Atari gave the first "substantial" glimpse into its next gaming console - the Ataribox. In addition to the retro-style Ataribox, there's another version with a more contemporary design that comes in red and black.
Atari isn't providing any more information on pricing, release dates, game content, or even full specs right now. The company said "we're not teasing you intentionally".
Unfortunately, there are no further details on pricing or availability, but we do know that the Ataribox can be had in the classic black/wood finish or in a more modern black/red color scheme. That sounds like a set top Android console to me. Atari filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013, but Chesnais bought it and pledged to make it great again. It is licensing its brands more widely, such as licensing its Atari name for the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 movie. It retains the woodgrain front (although there will be an alternate all-black version), the non-boxy design that slopes upward in back, and the horizontal lines that. help for cooling?
In an email to Atari fans, the company reveals "our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari".

The Ataribox console design is inspired by their classic Atari 2600 console and the device will come with an SD card, a HDMI port and four USB ports.
"Those ports suggest modern internal specs" claims Atari.
Atari (or rather that company that bought the name when the actual Atari went bankrupt) is going to follow in Nintendo's footsteps with its Ataribox console - announcing a device created to play retro games. That being said, Atari is acknowledging that it's short on info.
