D Roopa, a senior police official in Karnataka who created political storm in Tamil Nadu after revealing that AIADMK chief VK Sasikala paid a bribe of Rs 2 crore for special treatment in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara central prison, has been transferred, according to a report.
Roopa had alleged that two crore rupees had changed hands for providing additional facilities to AIADMK general secretary, V K Sasikala, who is now lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail. Things changed completely today after Roopa Moudgil has been asked to move to the Road Safety and Traffic department. She also questioned why no action was taken against department officials, who encouraged inmates to stage a protest after her report.
Roopa was also served notice by the state government asking her to explain why she reported the issue to the media. "If I am targeted for pointing out irregularities in the system, it is unfair". He has also been transferred, but without charge, as he is set to retire at the end of the month.
Roopa had also highlighted in her report the "special treatment" being provided to fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi.
Hours after Rao left the prison, Roopa along with a Police Sub Inspector visited the prison and went through CCTV footage and other records of her earlier visit to the central prison.
However, the DG (Prisons) rejected the allegations saying no such favors were provided to Sasikala.
On receiving the report from DIG Roopa, the press release stated, the government immediately ordered a high-level inquiry into the case. The tension escalated to the extent that she had to leave the jail premises in a hurry.
Besides Roopa and Rao, Director General of Police (Intelligence) M.N. Reddi has been transferred as DGP of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in place of Megharikh, while Amit Paul, IGP, Intelligence, will hold additional charge of DGP, Intelligence, in Bengaluru.
