The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday chose to postpone the selection of a new coach for the national team by a few days. "We need a few more days and need to talk to captain Virat Kohli before picking the new coach", said Ganguly. He and everyone of us need to be on the same page because for us Indian cricket is more important. There is no hurry at the moment.
According to the sources, the six likely candidates are Shastri, Sehwag, Moody, Simmons, Pybus, and Rajput. "The important thing is how we are going to go forward", Ganguly said. "We shouldn't be seeing again six months down the line doing something different", he added.
Other than Shastri, the Indian cricket board received applications from Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma, Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari.
Regarding the interviews, Ganguly said: "To be honest what we heard today was no different from what we heard a year ago". They have been outstanding, especially some of the names which we have been discussing about.
The world of cricket was hit by a shockk wave when legendary Indian-spinner Anil Kumble resigned as the Coach of Indian Cricket team before the West Indies series due to differences with skipper Virat Kohli.
Shastri, who remained in the United Kingdom after the completion of the Champions Trophy 2017, gave his interview via Skype.
"Sri Lanka tour is in a week's time, the board headed by [secretary] Amitabh Choudhary and [CEO] Rahul Johri will probably continue with the same set for the time being".
With the next coach set to hold the post till at least the 2019 World Cup, a well-thought out decision has to be made, for which the committee has rightly chose to take some more time and discuss with captain Kohli. We are not only looking at the Sri Lanka tour because Sri Lanka is a long tour.
No decision has been made to appoint the Indian coach, it has been announced.
