The IGP said Sharma worked in conjunction with LeT in South Kashmir in all these crimes.
"It raised the fingers of suspicion on spotting a non-local sitting in the same house where Lashkari was taking shelter and this to his sustained interrogation during which he spilled the beans", said the police official. "While working in Patiala he came in contact with Shahid Ahmad of Pohloo Kulgam, who also works there", the IG said.
Khan told that Sandeep had come to Kashmir for the first time in 2012.
He added that Sandeep alias Adil, was living in Jammu and Kashmir with two identities. It was here that they met hardcore LeT terrorist Shakoor Ahmad, the IGP disclosed.
The IGP said the involvement of non-locals in militancy was a new scenario, which they may have to deal with in the coming days.
"Investigation so far conducted has revealed that LeT in league with criminal network is raising money by looting banks especially ATMs in South Kashmir Range, besides using these networks to further terrorist activities", he said. He was also reportedly involved in bank loot cases.
"In all these actions, Sandeep was present and participating", Khan said.
The top cop said that Sandeep was also involved in militant attack on policemen in Achabal that left six cops, including an SHO dead.
According to police, Sharma and his associates were involved in a number of ATM loots at Mominabad Ashajipora, KP Road, GB Stand Anantnag, Larkipora SBI ATM, Achabal Adda (SBI ATM), and Zirpora Bijbehara (SBI ATM).
"Some more arrests are likely to be made in this connection as others associated with the group are also on the radar.:We can not give any further details as the same would hamper our action", added the police official. He was a close associate of Bashir Lashkari, who was killed on July 1.
"This module is a part of the LeT group. During the encounter, he was rescued along with other members of the family by police", he said.
Sharma is also accused of assaulting security personnel.
"Investigation is in progress and the subject has been arrested". "The group stayed at Wanpoh in south Kashmir and got involved in different kinds of robberies including ATM looting".
