Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria's ambassador to the United Nations and leader of the Syrian government delegation to Astana, attributed the failure of the meeting to reach a final agreement on "counter-efforts" of the Turkish side, reports SANA.
The change in the Trump administration's attitude to no-fly zones comes as Iraqi forces and rebel groups - with the help of the US-led worldwide coalition - make significant gains against ISIS in its two most significant strongholds, Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria.
The next high-level worldwide meeting on Syria in Astana will be held in the last week of August 2017, according to the three mediators of the peace talks (Russia, Iran, Turkey) announced in a joint statement on Wednesday.
