Be ready to head to higher ground if a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area.
The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Western Lapeer County in southeastern MI and Genesee County in southeastern MI.
The forecast for this afternoon includes showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Minor flooding is expected in the advisory area, officials said.
The rain is expected to dry out later on in the morning.
Thunderstorms containing very heavy rain are forecast to move into the area late this afternoon or evening.
The weather service has also issued a Flood Warning for the Fox River at Montgomery. Local rainfall amounts could exceed 4 inches which would be enough to trigger local flooding. An additional 2 or 3 inches of rain could still fall before the night ends.
"There remains a significant potential for more locally heavy rain", the weather service said.
This may lead to flash flooding in small streams, urban, low lying areas and areas prone to flooding. Temperatures will hold in the 80s through sunset to an overnight low in the middle 70s. Drivers should not drive through standing water.
