Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has played down speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona. "Even Real Madrid and Manchester United confirmed that there were negotiations".

Ander Herrera is set to sign a new four-year contract worth £200,000 a week with Manchester United, according to reports.

His compatriot Alvaro Morata had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer before Jose Mourinho made a decision to bring in Romelu Lukaku instead in a £75m deal with Everton.

It was a transfer that surprised many, including Herrera who says he had begun to envision lining up next to his fellow compatriot.

"Too bad he is not with us but I wish him well".

"There's no truth to Barcelona because I'm very happy at United".

"Of course I wanted to have Morata as a teammate, he was very close because the two clubs negotiated", Herrera said.

Various media outlets in Spain linked the former Athletic Bilbao star with a move to the Blaugrana, but after United's 5-2 win over LA Galaxy in a friendly on Sunday morning, Herrera insisted he is only focused on the English club.

Ander Herrera and the rest of his United teammates will next take on Real Salt Lake in another worldwide friendly Monday night.

The Spaniard told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: "I think De Gea is going to stay". "We've signed an important player in attack and it's hard but you never know", Mata told Cadena Cope.

"I am just as motivated, of course, playing against Madrid and it's a good test for us".
