Ball herself is nothing short of an icon, being Hollywood's most prominent comedic actress of the time, as well as becoming the first woman to run a major television studio. Cate Blanchett will play the iconic U.S. comedienne and producer, reported The Hollywood Reporter. Associates of the couple say that Arnaz was a regular drinker and womanizer and that Ball herself became dictatorial on the set of her show, the two sometimes clashing violently at home and elsewhere. "We met a few years ago and started talking about this, and now Aaron Sorkin is in advanced talks to adapt her mother and father's story".
"Lucy and Desi" will follow the relationship between the "I Love Lucy" couple, whose relationship was well-known on screen and off. In an unprecedented move, Ball insisted CBS hire her real-life husband, Arnaz, to costar alongside her.
Blanchett has won Academy Awards for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine. The script was written by West Wing creator Aaaron Sorkin, who's also written acclaimed films like The Social Network and Moneyball.
Lucy and Desi will chronicle the late star's 20-year marriage to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz, who she eloped with in 1940 and went on to form their company Desilu Productions, through which they created their classic TV sitcom.
The studio is said to be moving quickly to find a big name actor for the role of Desi Arnaz, with Javier Bardem mentioned as one possibility.
