Chelsea may have indicated that Diego Costa is no longer in the plans, but the club are ready to assist the player with a personal fitness plan so as to build his fitness. And this was further solidified when the club signed his replacement in Alvaro Morata.

Costa was informed by a text message from his manager Antonio Conte earlier this summer that he would not be part of his plans for the future, despite leading the forward line as Chelsea clinched last season's Premier League title. "For the club, for him and his agent and for me the situation is closed".

Ricardo Cardoso, a lawyer and legal representative of Diego Costa, has spoken to Spanish news outlet Agencia EFE, and he's announced that Costa is on the verge of handing in a formal transfer request to speed up his Chelsea exit. We will formally ask for a "transfer request".

"It was unfair behavious, a totally unacceptable lack of respect, all of which makes it impossible for Diego Costa to return to Chelsea".

"Not only have Chelsea not intervened or denied it either in public or in private, but they have renewed Conte's contract, demonstrating they agree with the dismissal of Diego Costa and the way in which it was processed".

Given Atletico's current ban, should Costa return to the La Liga club, he would have to be prepared to sit out the first half of the season until January.

Even the prospect of a mooted loan stint in Italy until Atletico's transfer embargo is lifted in January is not exactly filling the striker with joy.
