P L Punia the Congress leader said that Nitish had a respectable persona; he does not have that stature in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government as he used to have in the grand alliance as the Chief Minister.
Talking to reporters on the issue former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav confirmed that Lalu Yadav and other secular leaders have been in constant touch with Sharad Yadav and he is likely to announce his decision soon. Speaking along the lines of RJD-Congress, Yadav added, "Breaking an agreement with the people is a very big thing, they had voted for the grand alliance". "He is an opportunist who will betray you in a heartbeat if there's political gain to be made", the former Chief Minister of Bihar said at a press conference in Patna on Tuesday. "The match was fixed between him (Kumar) and the BJP to form a government together", Lalu had said.
This was Modi's first meeting with parliamentarians from Bihar after the new JD (U)-BJP alliance government was formed in the state, an official statement said.
Echoing similar sentiment, another JD (U) leader Arun Kumar said everybody in the party is concerned over the decision taken by the Bihar Chief Minister, including Sharad Yadav. "Sharad Yadav is not interested in Bihar's politics". Nitish Kumar joined hands with the communal forces that demolished the Babri Mosque, a symbol of the country's secularism and harmony, in the early '90s.
Mr. Yadav also hoped that Mr. Kumar would ask the Prime Minister to disclose the names of political leaders that featured in the Panama papers. On Monday, Kumar had said there was no one who had the capacity to challenge Modi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
"Even if PM Narendra Modi or the BJP dumps Nitish in future, I don't think there is any chance of his return to the anti-BJP opposition alliance", Anwar told media persons. "Even Sharad Yadav is anxious about this", Kumar said.
Tejashwi also charged Nitish with arrogance and said JD (U) chief's attitude will be the end of him.
Kumar said before taking any decision he always keeps in the mind "what is best for the party". "He is the senior most leader of the party".
The fresh Nitish-BJP partnership, however, has seen the number of crorepati members in the government getting reduced by one (from 22 to 21).
