Before taking the practice field Wednesday, Shepard took the time to wish his mother a happy birthday on Instagram. So there is hope that it is not a big injury that will cause him to miss the rest of the season, although it could be a broken ankle or highly sprained one.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later confirmed that medical staff was looking at Shepard's left ankle.
That has torn ACL or ruptured Achilles tendon written all over it.
After he put together a solid rookie season in 2016, the New York Giants began training camp hoping that wide receiver Sterling Shepard would take another step forward in 2017.
As a rookie last season, Shepard turned heads.
"A basketball-type ankle (injury)", coach Ben McAdoo said.
The Giants added veteran Brandon Marshall this spring to replace the departing Victor Cruz.
"We have to practice football to get better at football", McAdoo said.
