President Trump tweeted on Monday that he was "working hard from New Jersey while the White House goes through long planned renovation".
The Oval Office and Situation Room, where the US President meets aides in times of crisis, as well as other offices in the West Wing are among areas being redecorated. Workers are upgrading the heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and IT systems as well as making a number of cosmetic changes.
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer showed his ID to a Uniformed Secret Service officer Friday.
Though news sources quoted Trump as calling the White House "a real dump", the president denied that he ever said such a thing, while his spokesman said that he likes where he lives but has remarked before that the West Wing is somewhat run down.
Despite criticism for taking a vacation, White House staff insist that this renovation was "dire". A White House official told CNN that the East Wing of the White House will also undergo improvements.
He will move from his suburban New Jersey golf club on Sunday to spend time at Trump Tower in New York City.
"I love the White House, one of the most attractive buildings (homes) I have ever seen". Staffers have been working across the street at the Old Executive Office Building, Politico reported. The White House was built in the 1790s, burned in 1814 and reconstructed in 1817.
