Northwestern Memorial Hospital was ranked at no. 13 on the list of top 20 hospitals in the country, the only IL hospital to be named among the prestigious "Honor Roll" list. "We're hiring the best and making sure we have the best technology". "We take this very seriously, and we're not going to rest on our achievements".
U.S. News ranks hospitals on a number of measures, including patient survival and readmission rates, patient experience, and patient safety, among other categories.
Aurora St. Luke's earned spots in the national Top 50 for five specialties - gynecology (No. 30), cardiology and heart surgery (No. 37), geriatrics (No. 41), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 46) and pulmonology (No. 50).
The clinic finished 3rd under the "Cancer" specialty and 2nd in several specialties, including cardiology and orthopedics.
In Florida, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville retained its statewide first-place ranking from past year, while Tampa General Hospital rose one rank to second place and UF Health Shands Hospital dropped two ranks to third place.
"UK HealthCare is a place where you feel safe because you know we're ready no matter the situation or illness", said Colleen Swartz, UK HealthCare's chief administrative officer. "That really shows the array of excellence across a wide range of care". Some specialty rankings are also based on hospital reputation, which is determined by surveying over 125,000 physicians across the country.
Karen Lancaster, a spokeswoman for the University of Maryland Medical Center, said U.S. News doesn't analyze some areas where the hospital is strong, including transplants and trauma care. Patient volume data was also refined to make for easier comparisons.

In an interesting twist, Noseworthy was the keynote speaker at the U.S. News annual meeting in the fall of 2015.
No other Northeast Florida hospital is listed in the rankings.
By comparison, Medicare puts its patient-care emphasis on where the patient receives his or her primary treatment, and not where the patient was first admitted for care, as RTI and U.S. News determines.
