Houston attorney Tony Buzbee made his opinion of Sumlin loud and clear after A&M (0-1) blew a 34-point lead to UCLA (1-0) in a 45-44 loss Sunday night in Pasadena. He had to be helped off the field.
Prior to the memorable touchdown win, UCLA had gotten the ball back with 2:39 left in the game and drove 66 yards in ten plays, including an 11-yard throw and catch to tight end Caleb Wilson. Sumlin said he wasn't sure either player will be back in the lineup this season. A redshirt freshman, Starkel completed 6 of 13 passes for 62 yards before exiting the game in the third quarter with the injury. The senior Wilson did not record a tackle in the defeat, but has six career interceptions. He was replaced by true freshman Kellen Mond. Our players were better tonight. But coaches were dominated on national TV, yet again. "We've had a heck of a spring, recruiting is going well but coach knows he has to win and win this year and we have to do better than we've done in the past". I'm only one vote on the Board of Regents but when the time comes my vote will be that Kevin Sumlin needs to go.
Watch that press conference video, and you'll see Sumlin taking the blame for the loss, and unlike many coaches who do that just to take a bullet for their players, Sumlin is 100 percent accurate.
Midway through Sunday's game with UCLA, it seemed as if Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin had some things figured out with his football team. In my view he should go now.
