The soldiers from the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade were scheduled to fly Friday from St. Cloud, the Minnesota National Guard said.
At least 42 people were killed and tens-of-thousands were forced from their homes after Harvey made landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast on August 25.
The Rhode Island Air National Guard were deployed to Texas Friday night to support the recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey. Numerous deploying Nebraska Guardsmen were involved in that exercise.
The 1,500 guardsmen who are being sent are primary Army guardsmen who drill regularly, Phillips said.
Hapgood added that this is not the first time Iowa soldiers have been called on following a major storm.
The deployment is primarily made up of Airmen from the Nebraska Air National Guard's 155th Medical Group in Lincoln.
The 1,500 soldiers will join the 15 members for the Arkansas National Guard's 61st Civil Support Team that left on Monday. "Minnesota stands ready to assist in any way we can".
The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System has also been manning the Houston VA's call center, taking more than 15,000 calls since August 25, spokesman Chris Durney said.
Eight of the soldiers and both helicopters are based in Davenport.
