West Ham on the other hand will be frustrated by a lack of progress for Gomes, especially after a deal for Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho has now reportedly fallen through after weeks of negotiations.
After previously being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest on deadline day, Rangers winger Joe Dodoo has made a surprise move to Charlton Athletic.
Although he has failed to impress at the Camp Nou after his big money move last summer, Gomes would have been a fine addition to the Spurs squad this season. The Addicks have confirmed on their official site that the Ghanaian forward has signed on loan until January 1st, with Forest seemingly missing out on his signature.
Gomes signed to Barcelona from Valencia for £29.2m last summer but despite only being with the Catalan side a year, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring the 24-year-old in.
Gomes would add another international-calibre player to the West Ham ranks and could well be the shot in the arm the club needs after it lost all three of its opening Premier League fixtures in 2017-18.
Sadly, West Ham fall flat on both counts.
