If the slide continues, it will be hard for Lewis not to consider starting backup AJ McCarron, although the coach plans to roll into Green Bay next Sunday with Dalton at the helm of Cincinnati's offense. According to the Bengals, quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor will take over coordinator duties.
"Today my thoughts are with Ken after being on the other side and trying to be humane about it", Lazor said.
Lazor spent two seasons as offensive coordinator (2014-2015) for the Miami Dolphins, but he has been a quarterbacks coach in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins (2006-07), Seattle Seahawks (2008-09) and Philadelphia Eagles (2013) as well as the Bengals. "We have a lot of talent on offense, and we need to keep working to take full advantage of the personnel we have", said Lewis.
Cincinnati was shut out by the Baltimore Ravens in its season opener, 20-0.
Head coach Marvin Lewis believes Lazor can change that.
"We're not scoring enough points for our defense".
Said Green: "Andy missing balls here and there, we can live with that. You are not going to win without them.Being one of the leaders of the offense I feel like - no disrespect to nobody else - that ball should be mine somewhere somehow". "They're playing their butt off, while we're playing like s-- right now". Getting Green the ball more, finding a way to deploy rookie wide receiver John Ross and settling on something close to a lead running back are at the top of the list.
Through two games, the 29-year-old pass catcher has produced only 10 receptions on 18 targets for 141 yards. By the time of his graduation, the three-year starter broke 26 passing and total offensive records for the program.
The former Scranton Central and Cornell University standout also has been an assistant coach with the Atlanta Falcons (2003), Washington Redskins (2004-07), Seattle Seahawks (2008-09) and Philadelphia Eagles (2013).
