Muslims fleeing the violence in Myanmar have been arriving in neighboring Bangladesh, which has been accepting them for decades.
Malaysia has repeatedly used the ASEAN platform to engage the Myanmar government to find a solution on the matter, but so far, the latter has refused to allow a fact-finding mission in the Rakhine State.
Malaysia on Sunday slammed an ASEAN statement on the humanitarian situation in Myanmar's strife-torn Rakhine State, calling it a "misrepresentation of the reality" that has caused more than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee across the border to Bangladesh.
VOA's Bangla Service spoke with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Saturday, who said that the concern of the global community is "one positive thing", though Bangladesh has been providing shelter to Rohingya who crossed the border without worldwide support.
"The massacres of villagers and mass arson driving people from their homes are all crimes against humanity."
The Myanmar military "is brutally expelling the Rohingya" from the western state of Rakhine, said James Ross, legal and policy director at the New York-based rights organization on Tuesday.
The UN Security Council and concerned countries should impose targeted sanctions and an arms embargo, it said.

"Those rape victim women should come to us", said Zaw Htay, spokesman for Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, as cited by Reuters.
"Accusations without any strong evidence are unsafe", he told Reuters. "It makes it hard for the government to handle things", he told Reuters news agencies.
The Inter-Sectoral Coordination Group said in its report that the number had grown by 50,000 over the last two days, Efe news reported.
"We will not be asking for the statement to be retracted but would like to highlight that the statement should not have quoted ASEAN foreign affairs because there was no consensus achieved", he said.
"UNHCR is calling for a redoubling of the worldwide humanitarian response in Bangladesh".
Suu Kyi is Nobel Peace prize victor whose government came to power last year in a transition from almost 50 years of harsh military rule. Earlier this year, the former UN Chief Kofi Annan had urged Myanmar government to reconsider the failed programme related to the verification of Rohingyas for Myanmar citizenship and removal of strict restrictions on them but nothing was done. Most Rohingya are stateless.
She denounced rights violations in an address to the nation last week and vowed that abusers would be prosecuted.
She also offered to Cayetano Indonesia's four-point recommendation to end the Rakhina crisis, the report said.
The rare expression of bipartisan support comes after the Asean chairman's September 23 statement on the crisis in Myanmar, which Sivakumar said purports to represent the foreign ministers of the Asean countries and appeared to "downplay the atrocities committed in Rakhine" following the Myanmar military's crackdown on the Rohingya community.
