Mund, who always wanted make it to Miss America, inched closer to the dream in June when she won the Miss North Dakota title, which was her fourth and final time competing in the state-wide competition.
Cara Mund topped a field of 51 contestants to win the crowd in the New Jersey seaside resort, where most of the 97 Miss Americas have been selected. On Sunday, Mund told judges that there was evidence for the existence of climate change and that it was a "bad decision" for President Donald Trump to withdraw the United States from the agreement. Miss Mund said it was bad because she thinks climate change exists and the USA needs to be at the negotiating table.
"I'm an American", she said. She said the importance of being a part of the climate talks was not about whether "climate change exists or not". "Once we reject that, we take ourselves out of the negotiation table and that's something that we really need to keep in mind". But things are a little more matter of fact as Miss America looks to 2018, with everyone simply letting us know that we're watching an incredibly well-educated crew - one Bachelors, Masters, and Ph. She plans to attend Notre Dame Law School, where she has already been accepted but plans to defer a year.
This feat has left a mark in the pageant's history, as the new Miss America is the first victor from the Rough Rider State.
Mund's talent for the Miss America pageant was jazz dancing.
It's the first time the title has gone to North Dakota. Judge Tara Lipinski asked her what categories could be for a hypothetical Mr. America Pageant. North Dakota achieved Top 10 spots on three different occasions: Donna Grotberg in 1976, Tina Curran in 1988, and Roxana Saberi in 1997. In the same post, she also wrote: "Make-A-Wish children are often @cmnhospitals children!"
The 23-year-old won plenty of fans after subtly slamming President Trump in her question and answer section.
