Connecticut State Police troopers have been called to more than 100 crashes including more than a dozen with injuries this holiday weekend.
It's already proven to be a deadly year on Virginia's highways.
Police officials are encouraging drivers to stay safe.
State Police, working with local cops, will take part in the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign and will have added patrols and DWI checkpoints, Cuomo said.
The Labor Day Weekend is just about here, and the State of NY wants to make sure you stay safe while you're out enjoying the holiday.
During last year's Labor Day weekend, New York State Police alone made 220 DWI arrests and issued more than 11,000 tickets.
"Drunk driving is reckless and preventable, and the upcoming sobriety campaign is meant to get that point across", Prince William police noted in a statement announcing the latest "Drive Sober" campaign.
Sheriff's deputies and troopers also will have extra patrols and a checkpoint set up over the weekend.
Last year, Virginia saw a drop in traffic deaths during the four-day weekend - the operation began Friday morning and continued through midnight Monday.
As the trooper was parked on the shoulder, a pick-up truck was traveling northbound on I-91 in the left lane at a high rate of speed, state police said. Police said they will be focusing on stopping aggressive and distracted drivers, speeding, and driving under the influence. "Drivers continue to break the law by driving impaired, putting thousands of travelers at risk every day".
