After resigning from the post of Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship yesterday, Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Friday said that his resignation from the post was the party's decision and further refuted any strategy behind it.
Rudy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi around 8 p.m and put in his papers.
Apart from Rudy, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation minister Uma Bharti, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and minister of state Sanjeev Balyan had also resigned on Thursday.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is already holding charge of the Defence Ministry after Manohar Parrikar resigned to become Goa Chief Minister.
Birendra Singh and Sudarshan Bhagat are also on the list of those asked to resign. Reports say reshuffle may take place on September 2.
There is speculation whether some ministers will shed additional portfolios and if railway minister Suresh Prabhu will retain his position after two back-to-back derailments, killing at least 20 people, led him to take responsibility and offer to quit.
Kalraj Mishra is likely to be offered a gubernatorial assignment, sources said.
Sources in the BJP said that a reshuffle may take place either on Saturday or sometime after the Prime Minister's return from China and Myanmar.
BJP chief Amit Shah, who held a meeting with some senior ministers at his residence in the morning, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day. Junior Health Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste were also learnt to have been summoned by the BJP president.
Currently, two key ministries are without a full-time minister.
Harsh Vardhan, who is heading the Ministry of Science and Technology, was charged to head the Ministry of Environment following the demise of Anil Madhav Dave in May. Karnataka would have assembly polls next year. She has been keeping indifferent health for the past few months and reportedly wants to work for the Namami Gange project as well as work for the BJP.
While JD (U), the new partner of NDA, is all set to join the government, the BJP is keen to bring AIADMK in as well.
