Officers have found the bodies of all six Houston family members who were traveling in a van when it was swept off a Houston bridge and into a storm-ravaged bayou.
On Sunday, a family of six drowned while trying to escape Hurricane Harvey's floodwaters.
According to Spencer, Saldivar said the victims are his elderly parents and four great-nieces and nephews.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said relatives returned to the scene to look for signs of the van and notified authorities after spotting part of it poking above the water.
The plan was to drive them all to Ricardo's house, which meant crossing a bridge over the swollen bayou.
The driver of the van, Sammy Saldiver, was able to escape but not save anyone else when the van was engulfed Sunday, the paper reported. That's what he keeps hearing in his head.
"Sam calls my husband and tells him, 'They're gone, '" grandmother Virginia Saldivar, told the Associated Press.
Saldivar climbed out of the driver-side window but the van's sliding door was partially submerged and would not open, Virginia Saldivar said. Finally, on Wednesday, after the waters had receded, Andrew Saldivar spotted the van.
KHOU-TV identified the six family members as 84-year-old Manuel Saldivar, 81-year-old Belia Saldivar, 6-year-old Daisy Saldivar, 8-year-old Xavier Saldivar, 14-year-old Dominic Saldivar and 16-year-old Devy Saldivar.
Ric Saldivar doesn't seem to blame his brother for the deaths of his grandchildren, and his parents.
The water was so deep the van bobbed up and down.
"Initially, we viewed two bodies that appear to be adults in the front seat of the vehicle and we've been waiting for additional resources to get out here and investigate further", Sheriff Gonzalez said.
Family and friends of the Saldivar family have stepped up to help them offset funeral costs. "I haven't slept. I'm scared to go to sleep because I see them". "No matter who was left behind they weren't gonna last much longer without the other one".
"I know that Devy had posted on Facebook, like over 24 hours ago now, and it was in the middle of the night and she posted about being scared, anxiety, and she said, "I wish this would just stop", said Hiser-Jackson. Sammy's father yelled at him to try the pedal, Ric said.
