Earlier this year, the director said he meant to make a "full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe" - and judging from the freaky first trailer for The New Mutants, he was true to his word. What's scarier, seeing Arya Stark in danger, screaming for her life, or the familiar sounds of a Pink Floyd classic playing in the background? Twentieth Century Fox's X-Men franchise has been around in some form or another since Bryan Singer's initial movie debuted in 2000.
Releasing next year, The New Mutants will follow Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot and Mirage as they come to grips with their Mutant powers as they begin to manifest. The film is directed by Josh Boone and stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Alice Braga, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt. The cast and crew of New Mutants wrapped filming in early September, after beginning production in July in Boston, Massachusetts, so the movie has had a rather quick production schedule. This isn't your typical superhero movie.
The New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.
Fox released its first trailer for next year's "New Mutants" movie, a spinoff of its X-Men franchise featuring characters created by Chris Claremont and various artists in the 1980s as the next generation of mutant superheroes.
