Rafael Nadal beat Nick Kyrgios of Australia 6-2, 6-1 Sunday in the China Open final to win his sixth ATP title of the year, and Caroline Garcia defeated soon-to-be-No. The last time the Spaniard won at least six titles in a year was in 2013 when he captured 10 trophies for the season.
The 16-time Grand Slam champion Nadal saw the Australian Kyrgios hit with a penalty point as the Spanish number one eased to a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the Beijing hard courts.
Kyrgios started Sunday struggling with his serve and never found a confident range throughout the match.
After losing the first set 6-2, Kyrgios performed impatiently on the court.
"I was lucky the first day saving the two match points but after that I think I played one of my best events of the year".
Nadal has one of the best defence in tennis right now, but he needs to be wary of Kyrgios' big-serving ability.
"Of course, some moments was a little bit odd for me, something a little bit unusual", Nadal said.
And he is moments away now - Halep has taken the second set and a win over the No 8 seed to book her place in the final.
He has made no bones about not taking tennis seriously enough, and on Monday said it was down to feeling like he had no real objective in life.
The duo raced into the tie break, but Garcia now had the momentum and she held her nerve to make it a Wuhan-Beijing double.
Nadal 1-0 Dimitrov*: The roof is shut in China because it's pretty wet out there so the applause for Nadal's first victor echoes around the stadium.
Nadal, victor of the French Open and U.S. Open titles this year, has won six tournaments in a season for the first time since 2013 and strengthens his position at the top of the rankings ahead of Roger Federer. He won his first in his Beijing debut in 2005.
In reaching his ninth final of the year, Kyrgios registered his third victory in four encounters with the 20-year-old German Zverev.
