This year's World Food Day theme centres on migration, food security, and rural development; all three linked by increased conflict, political instability, increasing extreme weather events, and climate change.
Describing population control as a "false solution" to tackling hunger and malnutrition in the world, Pope Francis said what is needed instead is a better management of the earth's abundant resources and prevention of waste in food and resources.
She made the remarks at an event dedicated to World Food Day, being held in ADA University in Baku on October 16.
President Mamnoon Hussain has said the present government is focusing on the sustainable development of agriculture sector and has taken a number of measures for the welfare of the farming community, reported by Radio Pakistan.
He stressed the need to diversify cropping patterns to focus on other elements of the food basket like pulses, vegetables and oilseeds. The day is widely recognized by organizations concerned with food security. "This is particularly true for Pakistan as it has been working in close coordination with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in managing the Afghan refugees", he said. "Invest in Food Security and Rural Development" is a major humanitarian challenge to the world and regional communities in particular because of the increasing of external and internal migration.
He further stated that the government is improving the quality of seeds that are being provided for farmers.
