Rahul's visit to Amethi - his first in six months - also comes days ahead of a scheduled mega-rally being planned by the BJP for October 10 in Amethi which will be addressed by the party's national president Amit Shah and Union information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani, who has been trying to get a foothold in Amethi ever since she lost out to Rahul from the seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
"Farmers and youth are the two main issues concerning India and if Modiji can not address these, he should say so and the Congress will come and do it in six months", he said at a "chaupal" (village gathering) in Kathawra village under Jagdispur area here in Uttar Pradesh.
"Every 24 hours there are 30,000 youth who need jobs and the government is able to provide jobs to only 400 youth". The Gandhi scion will also visit Congress President and his mother Sonia Gandhi's constituency Rae Bareli as well.
Rahul advised the Prime Minister to discuss GST-related issues with small traders and businessmen.
Echoing similar sentiments Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar, castigated the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and warned it of consequences.
Contending that tax rates under GST were high, he said the tax should not be more than 18 per cent and the one proposed by the previous UPA government was on those lines. "He suddenly thinks that India should be cleaned and without asking anyone will order everyone to take a broom and clean India", Mr Gandhi said. "It will be good if the Prime Minister tries to understand their problems and sort them out in the interest of the country", the Congress leader said. They had voted for the BJP because Modiji had made tall promises. Many senior leaders have quit the party, the most recent being Shankersinh Vaghela in Gujarat and Narayan Rane in Maharashtra.
