Arsenal has completed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund chief scout Sven Mislintat, the club announced, with a fee of nearly €2m reportedly agreed upon between the clubs.

Mislintat is nicknamed "Diamond Eye" in Germany thanks to a string of brilliant scouting spots for Dortmund over the years.

The Gunners are braced to lose long-serving chief scout Steve Rowley, who is expected to step down from a position he has held since 1996.

The 45-year-old joins after spending 10 years at Dortmund, where he is credited with discovering the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Ousmane Dembele among others.

It was Mislintat who also recommended that Dortmund take a chance on a young Bayern Munich defender who was struggling for game-time in Bavaria; eight years later Mats Hummels returned to Bayern a World Cup victor and rated one of the finest centre-backs in the game.

Of Mislintat's departure, a Dortmund press spokesman said: "He has boosted the club's scouting under Michael Zorc and because of his services to the club, those in charge made a decision to give him clearance to leave". The signing of the 22-year-old Poland global for just €4.5 million back in 2010 represents one of the bargains of the century. Mislintat will be replacing Steve Rowley, a long-time ally of Wenger.

Arsenal appear to be closing in on the appointment of Michael Zorc as the club's new sporting director. This includes the use of data analysis - an approach Arsenal have utilised in their own recruitment process using USA based analytics company StatDNA.

"We are delighted that Sven is joining us", Wenger said in comments published on Arsenal's website. He has been a key figure in our recruitment of so many top players and has travelled thousands and thousands of miles, watching hundreds of games for us during his time at the club. "Everyone of BVB wishes Sven all the best for his future".
