Peru Parkside School is presenting its annual Veterans Day program at 1:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 in the Peru Parkside gymnasium. Local veterans and families are invited to attend as the students and staff offer a honest thank you to the courageous men and women who selflessly served our country to help shape it into the great nation it is today.
The Devereaux Memorial Crawford County Library, 201 Plum Street, will host a special Veteran's Day program beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, aimed at exploring the history of what has become known as "The Forgotten War" and to honor Korean War veterans.
The Albany High School civics class will host an assembly to honor veterans at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the high school, 400 Fifth St.
All veterans and the public are welcome, and refreshments will be served afterward for veterans and their guests.
Featured will be the speaker, MSG Anthony Moats, slide show of military photos, recognition of veterans, student prepared and performed videos and music. "He counts, as one of his highest honors, the fact that he has been able to speak to the veterans and students each year for more than a decade".
Fairfield High School Auditorium will be the site of Fairfield's American Legion Post 47's annual Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Corvallis American Legion Post #91 also has a Chili and Cornbread Fundraiser 4 to 10 p.m.at Fins Tap House in Corvallis.
Veteran's Day is celebrated on November 11 and was originally set in 1918 to honor the end of World War I on Armistice Day. All area veterans are encouraged to attend and will be seated as a group on the gym floor.
"I am very proud of our staff and students for taking the time to honor those men and women who have fought so bravely to protect our freedoms", said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel.
Second-graders will lead veterans of each branch into the school's multipurpose room, each holding a sign indicative of that branch of service. "Countless hours go into planning this", Carlson said of the program.
This is the first year for the Veterans Day Blizzard Ride, 9:30 a.m.to 2 p.m.
A member of Sky Dive San Diego will land on Coronado's High School Football Field at a past "Take A Veteran To School Day".
The Bitterroot Valley has many Veteran's Day events planned Wednesday through Saturday.
