Coming into Friday night, the Suns are really struggling, as they have lost seven of their last eight games.
Ball, who made waves on Friday by sporting a tight new haircut, finished with six points, six rebounds and six assists. Perhaps motivated by a verbal altercation near the Lakers' bench in Phoenix four days earlier, Booker hit all six of his 3-pointers in the first half at Staples Center.
Rookie forward Kyle Kuzma scored 28 of his career-high 30 points in the second half for the Lakers, who committed 20 turnovers while losing for the fifth time in six games. Ulis, Caldwell-Pope and Suns rookie Josh Jackson were given technical fouls following the fracas. Kuzma also notched a double-double with 10 rebounds. He also added five steals.
Three of Caldwell-Pope's Lakers teammates who were on the floor rushed over to separate the players, but Lonzo Ball took one look at the developing scuffle and continued his stroll over toward the bench.
The Suns (6-11) will play host to the Bulls (3-10) in the first of two meetings between the teams in 10 days. "We know what kind of player he is, he knows what kind of player he is and he's going to be just fine".
"We understand that those were two games that we definitely should have won", Ulis said. His third quarter lob to Lopez for a two-handed dunk was perhaps the play of the night.
With three games against the Suns under their belt - the Lakers won the first two - the newly minted enemies will spend the next few months playing other teams. However, the Nuggets have found some form and they'll be full of confidence after pouring in 146 points on Friday, so I'll be taking them to get the win and cover on the road.
