Kristaps Porzingis voiced his support for Frank Ntilikina after LeBron James said that the Knicks should've drafted Dennis Smith Jr. But Ntilikina's teammates strongly defended him in the wake of James' comments. Y'all know how they handled the Carmelo [Anthony] situation, but I'm not a fan of Phil Jackson, though. I would not change Frank for anybody.
Some took this as a shot at the player the Knicks did draft, defensive-minded point guard Frank Ntilikina. "He should be a Knick". That's going to make some headlines, but he should be a Knick. I know what Dennis Smith is capable of doing and I knew the Knicks had been looking for a point guard.
The Cavs are visiting the Big Apple for Monday's game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. He was largely inactive for the first three games of the season, playing just eight minutes total, all in New York's season-opening loss to the Thunder. But Ntilikina's teammates, coaches and Knicks executives are pleased with his play and enthused by the promise he's shown. James and the Cavaliers play the Knicks on Monday night.
James, whose Cavs face the Knicks on Monday night, said he wanted to clarify his remarks for "people who just live in a box and for Enes Kanter, who always got something to say". It's just that you stating what you see. "I can not just let him disrespect him like that", Kanter said. "The coaches, the GMs, the president, this organization knows what they're doing". I mean, come on. "Can you not?" the rider said as the camera panned on him before leaving his seat.
"I don't care, it doesn't matter LeBron or whoever it is".
"I don't care who, I just can not let anyone disrespect my family like that, because when I play for an organization, I see my teammates and that organization as like a family", Kanter told reporters. "I can not let anyone disrespect my family like that". And one of those whose interest was piqued was LeBron James, who recently said Smith was a "diamond in the rough". "That's all I was thinking about". We love what we got. "This is facts. I thought they would pick [Smith] and they didn't". "I have to prove to the team", Ntilikina said. "I'm just focused about the team, focused about us and we are just 100 percent motivated every game day ... so it's not affecting us".
