Thousands of workers in the North West are set to receive a pay rise of between 30p and 45p an hour because of new rates for the voluntary living wage announced on Monday.
Lidl's pay rate is higher than the Government's National Living Wage rate of £7.50 an hour, which was introduced in April a year ago, for workers aged 25 and above.
The report revealed that three in five (59%) who earned below the RLW had experienced a sharp rise in living costs, whereas almost two times as many (17%) noticed a decline in pay compared to those who experienced an increase (9%).
"With our accreditation, we are helping to set an example to other businesses across Hackney to make pay equal and sign-up to become London Living Wage accredited".
Chapman said the national living wage was not enough to cover the true cost of living, particularly in London.
The "real" living wage is set independently by the Living Wage Foundation.
The Living Wage is one of three wage schemes in operation - it's calculated according to the basic cost of living in the United Kingdom but is voluntary, so employers can choose to pay this amount.

The first increase in the minimum wage to $16.50 will take effect in April next year, with the goal to hit $20 an hour by 2021.

The 2017 Living Wage increases have largely been driven by higher inflation feeding through to the basket of goods and services that underpin the rates, with rising private rents and transport costs also having an impact. It stands at £7.50 an hour.
Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, said he was delighted that the London living wage had risen above £10, but low pay and inequality remained problems in the capital. In the capital today, more than 2 million people are struggling to make ends meet and the ethnic pay gap is shockingly and unacceptably large. "Numerous accredited employers I speak to tell me of the increased productivity and reduced staff turnover that they've experienced since signing up".
