In an extremely shocking case in India's capital Delhi, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her classmate, who is of the same age, with a pencil inside the classroom of Maxfort School in Dwarka.
The police have registered a rape case against the child but they are consulting legal experts as the age of the suspect makes the case complicated.
The parents of the girl have alleged in their complaint to the police that after returning from school on Friday last, she complained of pain in her private parts. She was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed sexual assault.
He added that he will probe the school staff's role and will investigate if there any staff present in the classroom or the washroom when the incident happened. The girl tried pushing him away but to no avail, and could not ask for help as no staff member was around. But, the girl started crying profusely at night and told her mother that her classmate had assaulted her using a pencil and his finger after unbuttoning her trousers in an empty classroom.
The parents have accused school management of negligence.
Talking to the Hindustan Times, the girl's mother said: "Since I had trained my daughter about the concepts of "right" and "wrong" touch, she knew right from the beginning that whatever was happening to her was not right". According to first information report (FIR) the mother stated, the girl complained of pain in her lower abdomen but the mother ignored it thinking it was "one of her tantrums". A police case was then registered. "We are examining those provisions even as we are handling the matter with utmost sensitivity", said Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police's chief spokesperson.
She said her daughter's delayed exit from the classroom, as she saw in CCTV footage, corroborated the sexual assault allegation.
"We must understand that it is absolutely not possible for a four-year-old to understand sexual behaviour".
The girl began crying and apprised her mother about the incident. Is there a possibility of a sexual need being fulfilled in his case?
