The new trilogy outside the ongoing Skywalker saga is to be overseen by Rian Johnson, the director of the franchise's upcoming film The Last Jedi, Disney said on Thursday.
The note of the Disney Studios also reports that the giant of entertainment is also working on a real action television series about the saga that will be released through the streaming service.
Total revenue from Disney's cable business, the largest unit which includes ESPN and the Disney Channel, fell marginally to $3.95 billion in the fourth quarter, missing the $4.06 billion consensus of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. The announcement was made today in addition to Johnson writing and directing the first of the new trilogy.
Johnson helmed "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", which is due out December 15.
"We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on 'The Last Jedi, '" Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. Lucasfilm and Disney are very proud, calling The Last Jedi a "powerful film". "Rian will do incredible things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy".
