Luke interviewed for the job Friday, and following the win over Mississippi State multiple players stated their support for Luke getting the head coaching job.
Even after being named interim head coach at Ole Miss under the tumultuous circumstances of Hugh Freeze's exit, Matt Luke was not shy about saying it was his dream job. He just finished his tenth season on the Ole Miss coaching staff, spread out over two stints (2002-05, 2012-present). As you can imagine, the decision was welcomed by the players in the room. Ole Miss isn't eligible for a bowl game this season after self-imposed sanctions due to receiving an NCAA notice of allegations.
"Mississippi is not a stepping stone for me, this is where I want to be", an emotional Luke told his team.
So when Luke's interim tag was lifted and the team was informed during a meeting Monday night, it was a special moment.
Gary Wunderlich set new records in three categories in his senior season as Ole Miss' kicker.
Bjork has said he wanted someone in place who has a clean background and, "will do things the right way".
Now Luke has a four-year contract that's worth $12.6 million.
