"I have to do my job better", said Winston, who went 7 of 13 for 67 yards and was sacked twice.
"I get it. They're frustrated". The Bucs were lucky it wasn't worse as the Saints were clicking on all cylinders in route to their sixth win in a row.
Bryan Anger's first punt was blocked and returned for a touchdown. The Bucs managed just one field goal - from 50 yards by Patrick Murray - as the Saints took a 16-3 halftime lead. Playing a first-and-10 at the Tampa 33, Brees flipped a screen pass to Kamara in the left flat. He played through the first half before being replaced by veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.
NOTES: Tampa Bay DE William Gholston was carted off the field with a neck injury in the third quarter. Winston entered the game with a sore right shoulder, and he aggravated the injury after being slammed to the turf by defensive end Alex Oakfor.
"It's the same thing that's been happening every week", Winston said. "I don't know whose call it was, but they pulled me".
Kamara lost a fumble, as did Snead, sent out in a reserve punt-return role only to muff a ball that set up the Bucs lonely 19-yard touchdown drive. Then, all hell broke loose as Bucs' wide receiver Mike Evans cheap-shotted Lattimore from behind, knocking the Saints' coveted first-round pick to the turf. The duo combined for three catches for 38 yards.
"By no means was it flawless out there", Brees said.
In the National Football League, teams generally need to be playing well to overcome all that. In the third quarter, he raced over and slammed Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the ground from behind after seeing Lattimore shove Winston on the sideline. He remained on the sidelines without a helmet on. Evans, who did not see that part, was penalized for a personal foul and could be subject to a fine or suspension.
"We're still striving to play our best game", Brees said. I was willing to look past many of his mistakes at FSU, and I applaud him for staying out of trouble since he has put on a Bucs uniform. "That was kind of malicious".
Winston had X-rays on his shoulder following Sunday's loss and no new damage was detected.
"We should want to be motivated because we don't want to finish the season with two" wins, he said. Scary, I tell you. "It's something that we are going to have to handle internally, but we are going to handle it".
