The company made its first foray into the region with the launch of its fast delivery service Prime Now in July.

Now that they have made it accessible for Singaporeans, members get to watch shows on its award-winning Amazon Prime Originals like the highly-anticipated second season of The Grand Tour, which will premiere on 8 December.

While free shipping and the ability to purchase worldwide goods at lower cost are Amazon's main draw for Singaporeans, it has upped its features to include streaming with the launch of Amazon Prime.

The members can also enjoy the streaming service Amazon Prime Video and gaming subscription service Twitch Prime.

"Now with an even wider selection of global items available for unlimited free worldwide shipping, along with unlimited access to Prime Video and Twitch Prime, this membership is created to offer the best of Amazon".

However, as an introductory offer, Amazon only charge S$2.99, though Amazon decline to inform of how long the promotion will last.

These services would be sought now that the American retailer has ended its Free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping service to Singapore. Its service, which offers free two-hour delivery from its local warehouse with a minimum order of $40 between 10 am and 10 pm daily via the Prime Now app, will also be made exclusive for members.

Prime members here will be eligible for free worldwide shipping on orders above $60 of more than five million items from Amazon's USA store, which will be made available on the Prime Now mobile app.

Speaking about the launch of Amazon Prime, Jamil Ghani, vice-president of Amazon Prime International, said, "Prime membership is created to offer the best of Amazon".

But administrative assistant J. Tan, 38, said he was disappointed that items he had been eyeing, such as the Nintendo Switch game console, are not available through the Prime Now app and no longer qualify for free shipping on the U.S. store.

"The Prime programme in every geography is custom designed for that region".

Lazada had launched its own subscription-based customer loyalty program LiveUp in Singapore in April. "Customers in Singapore have been enjoying ultra-fast delivery with Prime Now since July, and now, the introduction of Amazon Prime will take their shopping experience to the next level", said Jamil Ghani, vice president, Amazon Prime worldwide.

Other consumers are looking for more services to be added to Prime.

LiveUp offers users benefits such as rebates and discounts for RedMart, Netflix, Uber, UberEats and Taobao Collection.
